Vince McMahon and the Montreal Screwjob

I used to be a huge wrestling fan back in the day....I would wait up all night (way past my young bed time) and watch Monday Night Raw and even Nitro. It would be an injustice to say that my favorite wrestler was not Bret Hart. Bret Hart, it would suffice to say, was the man. So in 1997 at Survivor Series against Shawn Michaels, Hart was the guy I was cheering my little heart for. And then it happened.....

The Montreal Screwjob was one of the most disHARTening events in sports history. It describes the despicable actions of one Vince McMahon (R.I.P.), who went outside of the kay-fabe box that envelopes the world of wrestling with its extreme fakeness to screw Bret Hart in real life. No, not in that way, in a much worse way: by taking the WWF title from Hart's hands in a double-crossing job that basically only Hart didn't know about.

The Montreal Screwjob changed the face of sports forever, specifically wrestling. It gave way to a whole new set of story-lines and basically increased the stakes of each wrestler's role within the WWF. It undoubtedly led to the creation of the NWO and the subsequent WWF/WCW war that engulfed wrestling for the next seven years. Bret Hart and Vince McMahon have not spoken since the fateful day. Damn you, Earl Hebner. Damn you.
