A little question for everybody.

I have a small dilemma. I am switching leases with a friend of mine for school next year, and our security deposits are different values. Very different. I have asked him for the money now, instead of in August so I can help pay off my laptop that I recently bought. Was it wrong to ask for the money early? I don't think it was but I would like some feedback on my decision to ask for it early. Thanks!
